About Our Migratory Lid
Our standard migratory lids are built for durability, insulation, and reliable hive transport. Each lid is made with a 7/8″ thick deck, the same thickness as our hive bodies, to help reduce warping while adding strength and protection for the colony.
We use our highest-quality wood for the lid decks, selecting pieces with no cracks or loose knots. Each deck is made from two boards joined with a tongue-and-groove joint, then reinforced with four end cleats for added strength and stability.
These lids are designed to interlock with our bottom boards, allowing hives to be stacked securely during transport. This design also allows smaller hives to be placed on top of larger established colonies in cold or inclement weather, helping them retain warmth.
