About Our Poison Oak Varietal Honey

Our Poison Oak Varietal Honey is one of the more unusual and difficult honeys we produce. Poison oak blooms intensely but briefly—often for only a week or so—and gathering enough nectar for a distinct varietal requires strong colonies, abundant stands of poison oak, and just the right conditions.

Our honeybees love these tiny flowers, gathering both their nectar and pollen during the short spring bloom. The result is a truly local honey that carries the character of the wild Southern Oregon landscape from which it came.

Like all of our honey, it is 100% raw, unheated, and unfiltered, preserving the naturally occurring pollen, enzymes, aromatics, and other constituents of the hive. It is produced and packed by us using organically managed, Steiner-inspired, Natural Nest and medicinal beekeeping practices. Our bees live in sustainably sourced cedar hives with wood and beeswax frames, without synthetic miticides, antibiotics, or plastic foundation.

Because poison oak honey is so dependent on a brief and unpredictable bloom, each harvest is limited—making it a particularly special addition to our collection of Southern Oregon varietal honeys.
