Workin' Together

for the Health of Land, Hive & Home

At a time when food and health systems are increasingly disconnected, we choose to work small, local, and hands-on.
Everything we do begins with the honey bee — and extends to healing, education and nourishment for people and the planet.

Services

Healing, education, and consultation rooted in 25+ years of hands-on apiary experience.
From apitherapy and bee venom therapy sessions to natural beekeeping mentorship, every service begins in the hive and extends outward — strengthening people, land, and livelihood.

Apitherapy
& Bee Venom Therapy

Regenerative healing through the living medicine of the hive. Apitherapy is the therapeutic use of honeybee medicines — honey, propolis, pollen, wax, venom, and air — to activate the body’s innate intelligence and restore vital flow.
Common Focus Areas
Apitherapy Credentials
Botanical Integrations

Bee Venom Therapy (BVT) and apitherapy can help reawaken the body where flow and communication have been lost. These therapies are known for restoring movement, circulation, and responsiveness at the deepest levels of the nervous and immune systems.

  • Chronic pain, inflammation, and nerve repair — melts stagnation, stimulates circulation, and promotes cellular renewal
  • Autoimmune and post-infectious conditions — modulates overactive immune responses and rebuilds inner harmony
  • Hormonal and emotional balance, stress resilience, and adrenal restoration — stabilizes the HPA axis and soothes the nervous system
  • Cancer and abnormal growth — supports immune surveillance, apoptosis, and detoxification pathways
  • Sleep, energy, and immune vitality — strengthens resilience and reawakens vitality
  • Lymphatic and detox support — encourages drainage, movement, and clarity through the body’s cleansing systems
  • Microbiome and gut repair — fosters internal harmony through honey, propolis, and pollen synergy

Bee Venom Therapy works as a catalyst — awakening the body’s intelligence, clearing stagnation, and reigniting life force.

Led by Joy McEwen — Apitherapist, Natural Beekeeper, Integrative Health Practitioner, Coordinator of the Medicinal Beekeeping Commission for the International Federation of Apitherapy, and Trainer for the International Federation of Apitherapy.

Drawing from more than 16 years of apitherapy practice, Joy works with clients both in her office in Ashland, Oregon and online via Zoom, using bee venom therapy and hive medicines through a personalized, patient-led approach rooted in careful progression and respect for the body’s healing process.

Joy currently serves on the board of the International Federation of Apitherapy and previously served for three years on the board of the  American Apitherapy Society. She is also the author of the Medicinal Beekeeping Guidelines adopted by the International Federation of Apitherapy.

Her Apitherapy Certification Course is accredited through the American Association of Natural Wellness Coaches and is housed under The Apitherapy Institute, an educational arm of Diggin’ Livin’ Farm & Apiary.
Many of the medicinal herbs used in Joy and Eric’s oxymels, herbal-infused honeys, and varietal honeys are grown on the very farms Diggin’ Livin’ pollinates — Oshala Farm, Herb Pharm, and Pacific Botanicals. Our bees forage these certified organic fields, producing distinctive medicinal honeys rooted in place. Propolis is gathered from organic farms and the native cottonwood-rich riparian corridors of Southern Oregon, where abundant resins create exceptional regional potency.

These hive medicines — tinctures, sprays, infused honeys, and oxymels — are offered to our apitherapy clients and are also available in our shop.

Beekeeping Consultations with Eric

Guidance for natural, treatment-conscious, and regenerative apiary management.
Whether you manage two hives or two hundred, are transitioning away from chemical dependence, or have practiced alternative methods for years, Eric meets you where you are. His approach is rooted in observation, seasonal rhythm, natural queen rearing, locally adapted genetics, uninterrupted brood nests, and allowing the bees themselves to guide resilience within the apiary.

For more than 25 years, Eric has grown apiaries by following the bloom, making timely splits, raising queens naturally, and working with the biology of the hive. Whether you’re troubleshooting a difficult hive, improving overwintering, learning natural hive management, planning expansion, or moving toward more resilient practices, Eric brings practical, experience-backed insight grounded in organic, Rudolf Steiner-inspired, Natural Nest, commercial, and medicinal beekeeping. Consultations are available in person or over Zoom.

Areas Of Focus:

Natural Queen Rearing & Brood Balance — Rooted in Natural Nest Beekeeping, with a focus on living hive systems, sustainable cedar and redwood boxes, Western mediums, naturally reared queens, and organic Varroa management aligned with nectar flow.
The Art and Science of Walk-Away Splits — Learn timing, colony assessment, and queen-right balance to support self-requeening and sustainable apiary growth without synthetic inputs or forced grafting.
Queen Longevity & Matrilineal Resilience — Foster long-lived, high-vitality queens through natural selection, genetic diversity, minimal interference, and respect for colony intelligence.
Integrative Pest Management (IPM) — Support hive health through natural brood breaks, seasonal flow awareness, and organic treatments that work with bee biology.
Medicinal Beekeeping Practices — Explore the philosophy and science of medicinal beekeeping, including how to preserve the potency and integrity of honey, propolis, pollen, and venom.
Migratory Beekeeping: The Do’s and Don’ts — Balance mobility and stability through forage mapping, mono-floral honey production, and stress-reducing practices for strong colonies.
Regenerative Apiary Design, Seasonal Flow & Overwintering Strategies — Design apiaries that support soil health, floral diversity, nutrition, ventilation, and seasonal resilience from winter into spring.
